Reshi, Pedong & Sillerygaon


Pedong is approximately 21 kilometres east of Kalimpong situated at an altitude of 1240 metres / 4071 feet. The town is divided into two parts, Upper Pedong and Lower Pedong. Pedong lies on off shoot historic Silk Road that connects India to Lhasa via the Jelepla. One can visit the ruins of Damsang Gadi, a historical fort built in 1690 AD by the Lepchas. It was at the centre of the long-standing feud with the Dukpas of Bhutan. Later, it was used to ward off the forces of the British East India Company. After the Anglo-Bhutan War of 1864 AD, the fort fell into decay.Sangchen Dorjee Monastery built during the Bhutanese rule was established around the early 1700 AD still exist. The villages near Pedong include Sakyong, Kasyong, Dalep, Kagey, Upper Menchu and Lower Menchu. Kagey & Sillerygaon has home stay. Iccheygaon, Ramdhura, Deollo visit or sightseeing can be done from here. 

Reshi is situated nearly about 115 kilometres from Siliguri & 25 kilometres from Algarah.There are two routes one via Kalimpong and the other via Rangpo & Roarathang. Reshi or Rishi or Rishi Khola is located in the Kalimpong sub division on the West Bengal – Sikkim Border. Rishi Khola derives its name from the Reshi River (Khola in Nepali meaning a small stream) and has gained prominence due to iots brilliant location on the banks of the river, unique location and scenic beauty. It is also an idyllic spot for romancing the moonlight with a light barbecue and bonfire. Tourists can also indulge in luxury of bathing in the crystal clear river water and to cast the net for a light barbecue. Tourists can also get a feel of staying in pitched tents and have some adventure. For trekkers and adventure lovers Reshikhola have wide choices including rock climbing, agngling, birding, etc. 

Sillerygaon is a hamlet surrounded by tall pine trees, at a height of about 6000 feet. It is nearly at a distance of around 8 kilometres from Pedong. It offers view of the Himalayan range and the serenity around entice every traveller visiting the village. A few families have made collective effort to promote tourism with the a few home stays. The village offers a nice view of the Kanchendzonga massif and provide trekkers with a chance to hike to the Ramitey view point, the Tinchuley View point as well as the Damsang Fort. Sillarygaon in fact has a lot to offer to its visitors like excellent view of the Kanchendzonga, sightseeing, bird watching, hiking, etc. It offers options for tourist to trek / hike to Ramitey view point, Tinchuley View point as well as the Damsang Fort.

The nearest major and only airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB) and nearest major railway junction is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) 100 kilometres. Pedong can be reached from Siliguri via Kalimpong within a 04 hour drive through Kalimpong and the last diversion from Algarah.Sillerygaon is nearly 08 kilometres from Pedong and is roughly 30 kilometres from Kalimpong. Reshi is located about 115 kilometres from Siliguri & 25 kilometres from Algarah.
