Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre - Perhaps Tsomgo Lake and Rumtek Monastery are the most visited and most photographed sites of Sikkim. This is perhaps the largest monastery academically and for its historical value is located on a high location away from the crowded town. Nearly 45 minutes drive from Gangtok, 24 kilometres away, is the Rumtek Dharma Chakra Centre, the seat of the Kagyud order, one of the four Cuajor major Tibeten Buddhist sects. Since the 1960s, after the arrival of his Holiness the XVIth Gyalwa Karmapa, the centre houses some of the World's most unique religious scriptures and rare objects. Traditional in design, it is almost a replica of the original Kagyud headquarter in Tibet. It has over 300 centers overseas.
