Chatakpur is a hamlet situated within the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary in Darjeeling district, West Bengal close to Kurseong. Beautifully situated at an altitude of 7887 feet. It is surrounded by the Mountain Range in the North and the river Relly Khola in the south. This tourist spot is ideal for leisure holidays and birding. Its setting is amidst overwhelming Senchel forest with Pine trees surrounding the area. Local people depend on agriculture & tourism. Its a popular tourist destination near Darjeeling and is quite a tourist hotspot. Chatakpur is nearly 30 kilometers from Darjeeling city and 20 kilometers from Ghoom. Three routes lead to Chatakpur i.e. Kurseong-Dilaram-Bagora via the Hill Cart or Rohini Road, next is Rambi-Mongpu-Jorebunglow and finally Sonada nearly 07 kilometers away from Chatakpur and Darjeeling-Sonada (1-hour drive) and then to Chatakpur. Vehicles like Sumo, jeep, Bolero, etc with good ground clearance is preferable on any of the routes. Sunrise trek to Tiger Hill is probably one of the attractions at around 04:45 - 05 AM and is just 10 minutes walk from the tower of Chatakpur. Traveler / Tourists can spot leopards, barking deer, and even a Red Panda along with rare species of Birds. View of the Himalayan range is also an attraction. Bagora / Baggura is a small settlement and situated at the highest point of the Kurseong subdivision, with a viewpoint that offers a magnificent view of the Himalayan range and Mount Kanchenjunga. Bagora the quaint village is located at a height of 7100 feet. It is an offbeat tourist attraction and is known for short trek and Birding. Summer is a nice time to visit these places. With the moderate temperature in Summer, Chilling Cold in winters, and beautiful green during monsoon. The climate is fantastic, but the roads’ condition worsened in monsoon. Spring & Autumn offers clear sky and pleasant weather offers a view of snow-capped mountain views. Situated amidst alpine forest and rhododendron trees, it is known for offering a jaw-dropping view of the snow-peaked Himalayan range which has attracted many a tourist/traveler. It is best during Summer being on the leeward side one hardly get the Sun rays and is always covered with mist.
Chimney is a small settlement nearly 08 kilometers from Kurseong. It is nearly 50 kilometers from Darjeeling & Siliguri. Alpine forest and the Himalayan range as the backdrop, Chimney in Kurseong holds a plethora of historical incidents. It was once a station of the East India Company during the First World War. They built a huge 24 feet chimney. It is one of the major attractions of this village and literally gets its name from this chimney. The forest surrounding the village is quite a place for birding. Vast stretches of tea estates adds to the beauty. Nearby places like Bagora / Baggura, Chatakpur, Dowhill Deer Park, Makaabari, Ambotia, Castleton, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Museum, and Goomtee is quite a place to visit.
