Cooch Behar - Cooch Behar is nearly 154 kilometres by railway and nearly 160 kilometres by road from Siliguri. It’s a Historical city with Palace and temples. The most important dynasty that ruled this kingdom was that of Koch dynasty later came to be known as Cooch Behar. Cooch Behar was the capital of the dynasty for more than 400 years and quite influential and it became part of India during independence. It is now a district of West Bengal and a tourist spot. The remains of the old kingdom have been renovated and additional features being added to attract tourists to the region. The center of attraction in Cooch Behar is the huge and beautiful Palace. Established by the king Nripendra Narayan in the year 1885 is one of the largest building of the region till date. A children park with small railway line also has been developed near the palace. At a short distance from the palace is the temple of Madan Mohan build by the Cooch kings in 1889. The temple God is highly revered and has annual ceremonies held with huge gatherings. Each year tens of thousands of pilgrims visit the temple from nearby countries also. Places of interest or visit are Sagar Dighi, Ananda Ashram, Old circuit house, Moti Mahal, Victor Palace, Rasikbill, etc.Cooch Behar is well connected by roads and to rest of India and national highway number 31 is the main highway of the area. Cooch Behar is having its own Railway Station known as New Cooch Behar and is well connected with the rest of India with daily express and passenger trains.
