Coronation Point - Coronation Point in Yuksom is nearly thirty five kilometres from Pelling and nearly forty three kilometres from Geyzing. The area is always inviting with misty or rain washed surrounded by verdant forest creating a composed and soothing atmosphere.A short trek amidst tall pines and of colorful prayer flags one can reach Norbugang Monastry. The past seems to linger here as this is the site of the crowning ceremony of Phuntishog as the first Chogyal of Sikkim was held in 1641.Yuksom also boasts of having the oldest monastery, built in 1701 A.D.The Coronation point is situated at an altitude of 5577 feet / 1770 meters. Yuksom was the first capital of Sikkim. This capital shifted due to continuous invasion by the army neighboring kingdom. The first Chogyal dynasty of Sikkim was consecrated by the three holy monks in this point in the year 1642 AD. The stone throne which is also known as the Norbughang Chorten and a footprint of the Head Lama on a stone still bear testimony to that ancient ceremony being held here. Sacred lake of Karthok Tsho is close to this site. This can well be termed as a hot spot for tourist and it doubles up as one of the best view points for the ice peak Himalayas. The trek to Dzongri / Goechala / Samiti Lake and to the Khangchendzonga base camp starts from here.
