Durbin Dara / Tharpa Choling - Gompas or Monastery - Tharpa Choling Monastery - This monastery was established in the year 1922. This Gompa belongs to the Yellow Hat Sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It was founded in the Tibet in the 14th century and to which the Dalai Lama belongs. It's a 40 minute walk from town; take the path to the right off K D Pradhan Road. A short distance lower down the hill is the Thongsa Gompa of Bhutanese Monastery. It is one of the oldest monasteries in the area and was founded in the year 1692. The original monastary was destroyed by the Gurkhas and was rebuilt later. In prehistoric ages Tibetan traders use to pay homage to the gods for safely having crossed the treacherous trails.
