Katham Bari / Kathambari

This home stay is close to Siliguri and is situated near Teesta Canal. Birds and wild life can be spotted here occasionally. It is nearly 40 kilometres from Siliguri via Odlabari and is roughly 35 kilometres via Gajoldoba. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Bagdogra Airport (IXB) is 50 and 40 kilometres respectively. Bodaganj, Ambari, Kathambari, Odlabari are situated close by. All these places are at a distance of 25 kilometres to 60 kilometres from Jalpaiguri town. Bodaganj is 25 kilometres from Jalpaiguri in Shikarpur forest. Ambari is also accessible by road from Siliguri and Jalpaiguri. Kathambari is around 50 kilometres away from Jalpaiguri and is approachable by road. Odlabari is 90 kilometres away from Jalpaiguri by road. Buxa Fort Buxa Fort is located at an altitude of 867 meters / 2844 feet in the Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. Buxa Fort to Rovers point 3 kilometres, Santrabari to Roopang valley 14 kilometres, Buxa Fort to Lepchakha 4 kilometres and Buxa Fort to Chunabhati 4 kilometres. The longest trek is to Mahakaal which is trekable from Lepchakha, the trek ends at Jayanti. There is a border outpost of the security agencies here. The hamlet has a very small population of about a hundred people. Buxa fort is about 30 kilometres from Alipurduar town and about 18 kilometres from Rajabhatkhawa Lepchakha is another 4 kilometres from Buxa fort. It is nearly 182 kilometres from New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP) / Bagdogra Airport (IXB). Vehicle move up to Santrabari and then one has to travel to Buxa Fort 5 kilometres and the home stay at Lepchakha is another 4 kilometres. Trek to Tashi Gaon is also highly recommended. Attraction of Lepchakha is the view from the hilltop. There is a large ground where you can seat on few benches made from wooden planks on top of a small table top. The mesmerizing view of Buxa Tiger reserve, Bhutan Hills and the Himalaya will please anyone. Almost the entire Buxa forest area is visible from along with the rivers and the tributaries. As many as seven rivers flowing through the Buxa forest can be seen from here. Raidak, Jayanti, Bala and other river are visible from here. One can see Alipurduar town, Jayanti riverbed, Santalabari and the entire green cover. On the opposite side are the hills of Mahakal, Chuna bhatti and Rovers point which together makes for a great trek. People of the village are also very unique. The Drukpa people are the original inhabitant of the place. These people are Bhutanese in origin and have unique culture. Agriculture is the only source of income. Two beautiful home stay are available here with prior bookings. Stay and food is basic. Evening and night will be spent in the glow of candles and Kerosene lamps as there is still no electricity in this part of the stay. The night-stay is also excellent as it was a breezy night throughout the year and the climate pleasant.
