Lachung has emerged as a tourist destination with the soaring popularity of Yumthang Valley which is just 25 kilometres from here. The village, spread out on either side of Lachung Chu, has managed to retain its unique culture and tradition. The Lachung Monastery on the slope opposite the highway is a focal point of all religious functions of the local inhabitants. To get a glimpse of the religious functions performed on auspicious occasions a visit to the Monastery should form part of the tour itinerary.

In 1977 North Sikkim district became home to Khangchendzonga National Park and it shares the park with West Sikkim district. It is also home to the Shingba (Rhododendron) Wildlife Sanctuary.The best season for visiting Yumthang valley starts iis mid November to mid April and spring time is the best time to enjoy colourful Rhododendron. With over 24 species of Rhododendrons paints the Valley in spring. Yumthang Valley is extremely picturesque, with green slopes covered with trees, yaks grazing in the flower-spangled grassy plains below, and a river flowing right through the valley. Further north the elevation increases with the vegetation turning from temperate to alpine to tundra. Temperatures ranges from 24 °C to - 30 °C . Kanchenjanga is the highest peak at over 8,000 meters, straddling its eastern border with Nepal and can be seen clearly from the town of Singhik.Lachung offers a number of tourist accommodations. However a hotel here cannot be booked directly. As per government rule you can visit North Sikkim only by booking a complete tour package.

The nearest airport is Bagdogra Airport (IXB) and is nearly 250 kilometres. Chopper service is available for Gangtok from Bagdogra otherwise one has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometres via National Highway 10. Gangtok to Lachung is 5 - 6 hours drive and requires Inner Line Permit (ILP). The nearest major railway Station is New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP). From New Jalpaiguri Railway Station one has to drive to Gangtok nearly 130 kilometres. Next with one day rest and after permit is issued move to Lachung in 5 - 6 hours drive. Next with one night rest at Gangtok and after permit is issued move to Lachung in 5 - 6 hours drive. From Lachung one can visit Yumthang nearly 25 kilometres.
