Nagarkot - Historically it use to serve as the summer retreat for the royal family and other aristocrats from Kathmandu. The town offers great views of the mountains and there are few monasteries and temples. Nepal is one of the most sought after tourist destinations. Nagrakot is close to Kathmandu. For mountain viewing in the Kathmandu Valley, Nagarkot is usually considered to be the best. The views can be captured from Dhaulagiri in the west to Kanchenjunga in the east. The best time to visit the hill top is between October and March when the skies are mostly clear. Nagarkot offers a magnificent view of the breathtaking Himalayan peaks of Nepal including the famous Mount Everest. Kathmandu is nearly 35 kilometres away from Nagarkot, Pokhara is 140 Kilometres and Chitwan is 245 kilometres. Kathmandu is the nearest airport to Nagarkot. The best way to reach Nagarkot is by hiring taxis, cars or buses. There are shuttle buses as well which operate for the tourists. From the international airport it takes around 40 minutes to reach the place. It is surrounded by thickly forested hills of pine trees which give you an idyllic escape with only the wind and the sound of rustling leaves. Changu Narayan is one of the most magnificent temples designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. Present structure was built in the early 1700's. But at the entrance of the main shrine are stone tablets with the inscriptions dating to 400 AD. At the entrance is a 5th century statue of Garuda. Suppose to be the mount of Vishnu known as Narayan. Quite a number of fine statues from the Licchavi era, as well as several from the more recent Malla period can be found here. There is also a statue of the King Bupatindra and his queen in an enclosure from the 17th century.

Communication / Connectivity
Airways – Nearest Airport is Tribhuwan International Airport at Kathmandu. It has flights from Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Kochi, Goa, Hyderabad and many more places. There are international flights also. Visit to Nepal from Siliguri is simple, cheap and fastest. One can drive to Kakarbhitta (Nepal - India border) 37 kilometres by road. From kakarbhitta drive 35 kilometres to Bhadrapur. From Bhadrapur one can fly to Kathmandu in 45 minutes. If you plan in advance say 30-45 days in advance you may end up getting Kathmandu air tickets at very low cost.
Railways – There is no railway system in Nepal but one can reach any of the bordering town of Nepal by availing Indian Railways. Travelling in Nepal is solely dependent on either road or by air.
Roadways – From Kathmandu Nagrakot is 35 kilometres. From Siliguri one can drive 65 kilometres to Bhadrapur for availing flight. One can avail the Bus / Coach to Kathmandu or can fly to Kathmandu. The journey is preferably overnight and the drive is of nearly 15 hours and then to Nagrakot by an hour’s drive.
