Namgyal Institute of Tibetology (NIT) - This institute is crowded by the holy kids who are disciple of Buddhist and they are so beautiful to look at and their activity will please any visitors. During the break or recess hours they flock around the area sporting curios look and beautiful smiles on their faces. The most prestigious of its kind in India, this Buddhist Institute is a treasure of vast collection of rare Lepcha, Tibetan and Sanskrit manuscripts, statues and rare 'Thankas' (tapestries used in Buddhist liturgy). It has over 200 Buddhist icons and other prized objects of art of historical importance. It is one of the most visited sites in Gangtok perhaps after Rumtek monastery. There is a huge library and a garden situated among huge trees it is a must visit site. At present it is internationally renowned centre for study of Buddhist philosophy and religion.
