Sangachoeling Monastery - Among all the monasteries of Sikkim Pemayangtse and Sangacholing is regarded as the most prestigious one. It is known for its colour, intricacy and the architecture. It is believed that the Sangachoeling monastery was designed by the late Dongzin Rimpoche over five years. Sangacholing Monastery is also known as the place of secret spells and is the second oldest monastery of Sikkim. It was built in the year of 1697. Clay statues dating back to the 17th Century are amongst the oldest in the region. Both the monasteries have splendid views of the snow Peak Mountains and valleys surrounding it. It is considered sacred by the followers of the Nyingmapa sect of Buddhism. It is situated on top of a high ridge. It takes nearly fort - five minutes to reach Sangachoeling Monastery from Pelling / Pemayangtse. Sangacholing monastery is a magnificent monument worth visiting. The monastery is a storehouse of valuable artifacts like wall paintings, scriptures, statues, etc. Mask dance ceremony is celebrated here annually and attracts devotes from various corners of the state. Sangacholing Monastery can be visited on foot only (but they are building a road) and it is a walk of half an hour i.e. two to three kilometer. Rani Dhunga jungle Trek can be enjoyed following the path heading further west of Sangachoeling monastery through the dense forest and ridge nearly three hours walk to a site named Rani Dhunga where there is a big unmoving rock.
