Uttarey / Varsey (Rhododendron - A short and adventurous trek from Uttarey Chitrey - Chiwa Bhanjang – Dhoor – Gairi Khet - Dafey Veer – Gomothang – Boktok – Yangtsep – koglug - Tsonrikhang back to base camp. Varsey is situated between Singalila National Park in the south and Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve in the north. This Rhododendron Sanctuary is spread slightly over one hundred and five square kilometres and has rich biodiversities. The elevation ranges from 2200 meters to 4100 meters and support a wide variety of trees ranging from mixed broadleaf forest, conifer forest and alpine meadows. The primary attraction of this small sanctuary are rhododendron bloom, the greenery and wildlife. Nearly ninety kilometres by road from Pelling via Jorethang Sombarey and Hilley

Varsey is known as the hills of Rhododendron situated at the height of about 10000 feet. The best way to reach Varsey is to take private vehicle from Siliguri (NJP or IXB) Jorethang and further up to Hilley, a small hamlet surrounded by rhododendron trees and the last motor able point before Varsey. Either spend a night in hotel in Hilley or a four kilometer leisure walk on fairly even ground takes you there. Known for the beauty and picturesque setting is also an ideal place for short trek. Rhododendron is wonderfully seen in large number and variety. Trek to Varsey from Dentam Soreng is best during the spring or autumn season. This sanctuary is has over thirty varieties of Rhododendron and is an ideal destination for botanist even birding hotspot.
